Do you really need access equipment and what’s the difference?

If you need to access something at height, that’s outdoors, or within a large indoor space, you may need access equipment. Sometimes a ladder is just too unsafe, or does not provide the level of mobility required to carry out the required task. Access equipment, such as scissor lifts, boom lifts and cherry pickers are used for things as simple changing lightbulbs, to more complex engineering tasks that in hard to reach areas.

You may be mistaken to think that everything you need access to could be solved by what’s commonly referred to as a cherry picker, you may unfortunately be mistake, as cherry pickers can refer to a number of things, and to the laymen may even mean any type of access equipment. What most people refer to a cherry picker is more often than not a Boom Lift, which is great for accessing hard to reach areas, they utilise what’s often called a boom, a long arm, often extendable with a point of articulation, allowing you to approach an area from many angles.

If you’re looking for something that requires less mobility than a cherry picker or boom to gain access to. but may need to be worked on by more people, or for longer, the more stable scissor lift is often equipped with a larger platform, which is why scissor lifts are often used for jobs that require multiple men in one, secure area which is otherwise inaccessible.
